Mosquito Prevention           January 22nd, 2021

It's that time of year again! Mosquitoes are back out and ready to annoy you! Coastal Waves Vacations has some ways to help control mosquitoes that can carry the Zika or West Nile Virus. Did you know that female mosquito only bites to feed on your blood, but they don’t just feed on humans? These pesky mosquitoes will go after your cats and dogs as well. Protect all your loved ones, even the furry ones, by going to our local outdoor stores or order online. Academy, Target, and chewy.com have a DEET free option that is dog-friendly, baby-friendly, and natural. It is called Eucalyptus Lemon Mosquito Spray made by Repel. For adults, you can also get spray with DEET in it to help repel longer and more efficiently. Mosquitoes don’t like how DEET repellent smells, so they stay away from it. The higher percentage of DEET the longer the protection. For Example, 10% protects for a couple of hours, and 20% last twice the amount of time. Be sure to buy mosquito spray on the weekdays before it is gone on the weekends. Another way to protect is to wear lightweight long sleeves and pants. It also helps to spray your clothes down as well. When spraying always spray in an open area so you inhale the least amount possible.  Also, stay away from standing water, mosquitoes breed in it. Stay safe out there and follow these few guidelines and your vacation should be mosquito-free.

Mardi Gras 2021!    February 1st, 2021

Mardi Gras 2021 for Galveston was canceled in December of 2020. With Galveston Island, ingenuity Galveston will be having a socially distanced house float festival. Instead of the parades, locals are decorating their homes, yards, porches, and storefront businesses through February 2nd to the 16th for all to see. Grab your bike, drive your car, or just walk around, but you can’t miss out. On the 13th from 5 pm – 7 pm, as always beads will still be thrown from the homes or business for you to catch from the street or sidewalks. If we can’t have our traditional Mardi Gras we will celebrate in a pandemic safe manner. Please respect your friends, neighbors, local businesses, and homes when looking around at the house float festival.

Galveston Getaway Guide   March 2nd, 2021

Galveston has so much more to offer than just beaches.  No need to sit indoors when it’s raining or if you’re just looking to get out of the sun.  Experience Galveston likes a local.  Schlitterbahn waterpark offers slides, a floating river, a secluded beach, and more. Areas of the waterpark are covered and have heated water.  This is perfect if the Gulf is a bit too cold.  After, you can venture a few blocks away to Moody Gardens. Moody Gardens offers 3 pyramids to explore, The Aquarium, The Rainforest, and the 3D & 4D theater. Moody Gardens is a Wildlife Protection and Rehabilitation facility.  Experience sharks, penguins, seals, and stingrays to monkeys, parrots, bats, and snakes. History buffs, explore The Bryan Museum, Bishop’s Palace, or Galveston Railroad Museum, all three with a rich history and beautiful architecture. Galveston holds many attractions to cater to everyone’s interests, whether it is beautiful and sunny outside or cloudy and rainy, everyone will find something to enjoy and have fun.
